CONSUMER HEALTH RESOURCES

Consumer Health Information is available from several places on the Library Web Site:
 
  • CATALOG

  •  The Library collects materials designed to be used with patients.  To find these materials, search the catalog by subject, attaching the sub-heading "popular works" to your subject (e.g. ASTHMA--POPULAR WORKS).
  • LEXIS-NEXIS

  • The General Medical & Health Topics database allows you to browse the full-text of Medical journals and newsletters providing information on drug interactions, cancer, poison, disease, trauma, and medical administration.
  • GALE VIRTUAL REFERENCE LIBRARY

  • Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. It contains encyclopediae covering hte fields of alternative medicine, cancer, medicine, and genetic disorders.
  • HEALTH REFERENCE CENTER ACADEMIC

  • Use this database to find articles on: Fitness, Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Alcohol and Drug abuse, HMOs, Prescription Drugs, etc.
  • HEALTH AND WELLNESS RESOURCE CENTER

  • Find alternative medicine-focused magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories, videos, & reference information on: Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Pregnancy, Herbal remedies, etc. Included are links to diet, cancer, health assessment sites & government databases.
  • NET LIBRARY
  •  
    The Net Library database provides full-text access to materials for the layman.
  • MDCONSULT

  • MDConsult and FIRSTConsult offer access to evidence-based patient education materials. In MDConsult, select the option for "Patient Handouts" on the blue tabs across the top of the screen. In FIRSTConsult, select the option for "Patient Education" on the blue bar on the side of the screen.
